A 3.6 metre wide 19th Century Glebe terrace renovated into a peaceful inner city home for myself, my partner and our young daughter.
The back of the existing house was demolished and replaced with a new bedroom and bathroom above an open plan kitchen which flows out to a leafy courtyard.
A bath-house/laundry on the back boundary book ends the site, providing privacy and security from the park behind.
Borrowed views of the park increase the sense of space from within the more intimate spaces of the house and courtyard.
The house is flooded with natural light, with ventilation through large windows, sky-lights and a louvred north-light window of the loft.
A small and carefully selected palette was chosen, including new and recycled materials.
All joinery, including the kitchen, comprises individual pieces of furniture, which can be easily removed and relocated as required.
The concept was to design and renovate a small inner city house that is built to last while remaining flexible in its plan as uses changes over time.
