RELATIONSHIP TO SITE AND CONTEXT

The house is the middle terrace in a row of three. The terrace to the north was designed and renovated simultaneously for the neighbours, while the other remains DA approved, but un-renovated.

The main aims were to take advantage of the buildings orientation to the sun and views of the park, and to allow for flexibility as uses change over time.

An east/west orientation allows good light to the rear of the property whilst the facade is protected by a low-rise block of apartments to the west.

Site lines and the angle of the bath-house roof were designed to crop side views, drawing the eye up to the park and sky beyond.

A deciduous tree in the park provides sun protection during summer while allowing warm rays well into the main body of the house in winter.
