With the role of architect/client merged, the brief for this project evolved over a number of years and remained in a state of flux as ideas were constantly challenged.
Structural blades develop an internal rhythm, displaying obvious divisions between rooms yet allowing the plan to remain open.
The courtyard functions as an outdoor room, providing an additional living/dining area, with long views possible through the bath-house to the park.
By taking advantage of the full length of the site and locating the bath-house/laundry on the rear boundary the project has taken on an unexpected "other worldly" dimension as the pleasures of bathing are enhanced.
Currently the office occupies the front room, followed by living room and eat-in kitchen, but removal of the office would free the space for a different arrangement.
As the emphasis was on flexibility, access to the park was made possible via a rear bath-house entry, offering the potential for the plan to operate in reverse with the front room becoming an additional guest room, if required.
